Counter-Strike 2 Official Announcement
Valve has officially announced the development of Counter-Strike 2, which is being built on the Source 2 engine and will be a free upgrade to existing CS:GO players. A limited test is currently underway and select players have been invited to participate based on factors such as recent playtime on official servers, trust factor, and Steam account standing. Valve is cautioning players to beware of third-party sites claiming to offer access or keys to the limited test.
One of the most impressive new features of Counter-Strike 2 is the realistic smoke grenade effects, which react to lighting, fill spaces naturally, and move with the force of bullets and other grenades. Additionally, the game's sub-tick update means tick-rate no longer matters as servers will recognize the exact moment players click to shoot or throw a grenade.
Maps have also received significant updates, with some being completely overhauled while others enjoy new lighting effects. There are also improvements to the user interface, audio, animations, and more. Valve has released information on the official Counter-Strike 2 website and has also shared three videos showcasing some of the changes on their YouTube channel.
